We got a backstage tour of the Hegdian Studios, by a member of the Hengdian Group. It was the off season for tourist, and we got to roam around the giant studio. There is an exact replica of the Forbidden City (in Beijing), the Qin Emperor's palace, and so much more. They are building a duplicate of the Old Summer Palace (Beijing) and that is causing some controversy.
There is another area being built that is a culture town. We got to see the filming of the famous Chinese TV show - The Journey to the West - and the Monkey King said hello :-). Many movies have been filmed here, including Hero and parts of the recent Forbidden Kingdom.
There is also a theme park and a show every night - volcano, dancing, etc.
