SYNOPSIS:

This subject is offered as a professional elective to the second semester students. During the course, student will be trained in the techniques of voice control and manipulation for broadcasting purposes. Besides theories, this course will employ more practical approach, and thus students will be evaluated on their performances and finished projects. Class participation is vital and will be taken into account for evaluation purposes.

OBJECTIVES:

The subject is aimed to raise the quality of students' voice to a standard of a professional level in radio and television announcing.

Voice characterization is greatly in demand in the present broadcasting industry, so students are required to learn how to vary their voices for different broadcasting purposes.

We hope to identify and develop talented students to communicate through the broadcasting media.

METHODS OF DELIVERY:

Lectures will be done in the classroom and in the recording studio.

An audio and a video recorder will be used to evaluate the voice of the students and also their appearances as a TV presenter.

ATTENDANCE:

Since evaluation is done constantly, attendance is essential to the receipt of a satisfactory grade. You are allowed three unexcused absences. For every day missed after the third day will result in an automatic 3% loss in the total points. Nine absences will result in automatic failure of the course. Emergencies, such as a death in the family or severe personal illness will be the only allowance for missing our class periods besides athletic games and class field trips. Projects are due at the start of each period. Projects turned in late will merit a 25% loss of points on the day due and 10% additional per additional day late.

RELATION TO OTHER SUBJECTS:

In almost all broadcasting production, narration is vital for a more effective presentation and to capture the audience. On-air broadcaster is a communicator, a catalyst for a message. Whether the message is news, commercial copy, an interview segment, or a game show, the task of the communicator is to serve as a conduit for communication between the originator of the message and the audience.

The traditional announcer with the stylized delivery is no longer the backbone of the industry. He has been replaced by professionals who can convey greater intimacy, the image of a real person who no longer portrays a disembodied voice or a talking head.

CLASS PARTICIPATION

Class participation includes, reading and you being prepared to discuss each day session. Please be active in your participation and involvement in the theory as well as the practical aspect of the class contents.
